Welcome back to the LoadMate Onboarding Guide, where we guide you through setting up your LoadMate system. In our last section, we explored the importance of understanding the weight and capacity specifications of your caravan. Now that you have a clear understanding of your vehicle's metrics, we move forward to Section 3 - Entering Key Dimensions. This vital step further refines LoadMate's accuracy and ensures it's tailored to your specific caravan and vehicle.
3. Enter some key dimensions
Entering precise measurements for your rig is an essential aspect of the LoadMate setup process. Although you might find some of these dimensions listed in your owner's manual or online, it's best to get hands-on with a tape measure to collect the most accurate data. Allocate around 5-10 minutes to measure and verify your dimensions, which ultimately leads to more precise LoadMate calculations.
Let's start with your vehicle's dimensions:
Vehicle Dimensions
Wheelbase*
The distance in millimetres between the center of the front wheels and the center of the rear wheels on the vehicle.
The wheelbase is the exception to the others where you can easily find this in most sources.
Front Bumper to Centre of Rear Axle*
The measurement from the front of the vehicle's bumper to the center of the rear axle in millimetres.
Without a Bull Bar this will be your Wheelbase + Front Overhang.
Centre of Rear Axle to Tow Hitch*
The measurement from the center of the rear axle to the center of the tow hitch in millimetres.
Varies by each vehicle but typically Rear Overhang + 150-200mm.
Next, let's tackle your caravan's dimensions:
Caravan Dimensions
You may already have some of these dimensions listed in your caravan's specifications. However, because we will be personalising these measures in a subsequent step, it's best to take a moment to check and confirm the actual dimensions with a tape measure.
Overall Caravan Length*
The measurement of the overall length of the caravan from the tow hitch to the rear bar in millimetres.
Caravan Body Length*
Measure the total external body length of the caravan, excluding the trailer a-frame, in millimetres.
Tow Hitch to Centre of Axle*
Measure from the centre of the tow hitch to the centre of the axles. For a single axle caravan, measure to the centre of the axle. For a tandem caravan, measure to the mid-point between both axles in millimetres.
Caravan Axle Type*
Having completed Section 3 of our guide, you're already well on your way to getting the most out of your LoadMate. Armed with accurate vehicle and caravan dimensions, you've honed LoadMate's calculations, priming it for enhanced performance.
As we move forward to Section 4, we will take this personalisation one step further. We'll be guiding you through personalising your vehicle's storage locations, ensuring that LoadMate's calculations are tailored not only to your caravan and vehicle but also to your specific storage habits. Remember, precision is crucial, but an approximation is better than no measurement. Join us in the next section as we enhance your LoadMate experience further.
